The History of "Powering Imagination", Roblox
All the people at the RDC (Roblox Developers Conference) |
Roblox is a great platform to play games created by people who want to create a game, hoping they can make some money off of their game on Roblox. The Roblox Corporation is a valued at around 1 billion right now according to Worth of Web and some even say it could grow to 2 billion. You may have heard of Roblox itself, but you've probably never heard of the history of Roblox, the way it got to where it is now. So your probably waiting to get that information, so let's get right into it. I felt like a Youtuber as I typed that.
Erik Cassel and David Baszucki were the founders and creators of the very Roblox corporation. David Baszucki had created a previous company named Knowledge Revolution, which focused on educational physics and mechanical simulation software. 10 years later after the company was founded (It was created in 1989), he met Erik Cassel. Then in 1999, Knowledge Revolution was sold off to MSC Software Corporation for 20 million.
In 2004, Roblox was created, except it was named DynaBlocks. They quickly realized that DynaBlocks was just hard to remember, so making the right decision, they renamed it to Roblox. It was in beta for 2 years and then finally, after lots of work, they launched their product in 2006.
The in-game currency called Roblox Points (Now called Robux) was used to buy different items. Over the few years since its launch, they added more features such as the iconic search bar (You got to find other games some way) and avatar customization like different outfits and hats.

In 2012, Roblox encountered users who were vandalizing their website. This dark time for Roblox was named the 2012 April Fools Hack. Some were given large quantities of Robux to stop the vandalizing and others were compromised and banned off the website for being affiliated with these enormous hacks. The most notable hacker who messed up the Roblox experience was known as 1dev2 who created the hit game, Welcome to the Town of Robloxia. But 1dev2 just made another account and has last been known as 1dev3.

Later in 2012, they added the trading feature that allowed players to trade items and outfits between each other. Roblox finally began supporting their platform on mobile.
In 2013, game creators were able to exchange their Robux gained from their game into real money.
Over the years, Roblox hosted different events on their sites such as egg hunts for easter and tournaments. Roblox also hosted events in different cities that allowed players of Roblox and staff to talk about Roblox and find out about future updates to the platform.
Now after you read all of that, you know much better about the backstory of Roblox and if you want, you can check out Roblox. There are many fun games to play and David Baszucki and Erik Cassel did "Power Imagination" (Roblox's slogan).
